High School Program
Beth Chaverim is excited to offer an even
stronger pre-confirmation and confirmation program for the 2010-11 school year.
Eighth and Ninth Grade Classes
JEWS IN THE TWILIGHT ZONE will be taught by Lisa Kimball. The curriculum is a series of Jewish value-based lessons utilizing episodes from the classic 1960’s TV series.
Class meets 11 am - 1 pm.
For those attending the 11 - 2 pm classes, the fees include the 1 - 2 pm "Lunch & Learn" class (see below). You must pre-register.
The fee is $450 and includes books & materials.
As these classes take place during lunch time, a 30 minute lunch/social time is built into them and lunch will be provided each week (the cost for lunch is included in the fees for these classes).
We are currently investigating some options for an 8th and 9th Grade trip or retreat. Reserve the weekend of May 6-8, 2011, and watch out for more details! There will be an additional cost for the trip or retreat.
Tenth Grade Confirmation Class
The 10th grade confirmation class will be taught by Rabbi Linda Joseph. We will take a year to create a meaningful Confirmation Service and Tikkun Leil Shavuot. Our students will become our knowledgeable, creative prayer leaders and teachers for our congregation that evening. During the
JOURNEY TO CONFIRMATION we will design this exciting night by delving into Torah (text study), Avodah (prayer) and Gemilut Chasadim (Deeds of Righteousness), and will craft together an event not to be missed!

We are currently investigating the economic viability of a Confirmation Trip to different destinations. Stay tuned for more details and for helping us make choices! Reserve the weekend of January 14-17, 2011, (Martin Luther King Weekend). There will be an additional cost for the trip.
Lunch & Learn
8th – 10th grades students have the option to stay for LUNCH & LEARN. These classes will be taught by Rabbi Linda Joseph and Lisa Kimball and will consist of several classes in 2010-11 focusing on JEWISH VALUES.
Throughout the year our students will have a chance to do some core subjects; and as a group choose from some elective offerings.
Our Class Core offerings are as follows --
JEW-FISH is a series of values based lessons that interpret the FISH philosophy through Jewish principles. “Play”, “Make Their Day”, “Be There” and “Choose Your Attitude,” together with us in a Jewish way!
YOU BE THE JUDGE will present our students with some dramatic and/or humorous case studies to “judge” using through their own values. They will then learn what Jewish law has to say on the matter… do they judge the world through Jewish eyes...or do they differ with tradition (which is OK!)?
Our Class Elective Offerings will have our students choose as a group ONE out of THREE possible activities for the group to do for 2-3 weeks in the areas of –
TACKLING TIKKUN – Tikkun means “repair.” Tikkun Olam is “Repair of this World” -- a Kabbalistic idea with a modern day interpretation that we are required to be active in this world to make it a better place. Our students will be given some choices of a Social Action based activity for us to tackle together.
YOTZER OR : OUR CREATIVE LIGHT – In the morning prayer, Yotzer Or, we talk about God creating light. We will use our creative lights within to choose a Jewish activity that enlists and hones our playful imaginative sides.
Eleventh & Twelfth Grades
What do you get when the Five Books of Mo (Torah) are headed to Starbucks for Joe (coffee or the beverage of your choosing) and you have Rabbi Linda there?
Come to MO-JOE WITH RABBI JO and find out!
This program is free and open to 11th & 12th grade students! Click here to see meeting dates and location. Even though this program is free, you must register.
Madrachim Program for Eighth - Twelfth Grade Students
We are looking for 8th - 12 grade students who are interested in becoming teacher aides for religious school. They will have formal training and be assigned a specific class. This is a wonderful opportunity for our young adults to stay actively involved with their Jewish educations while giving back to the synagouge. If you are interested, please email Sharon Chiat.
