Rabbi Amy Sapowith

Lot’s of hugs and smiles yesterday as we returned to temple for the start of the new
year. This was followed by our family picnic complete with burgers and hotdogs made to order—a thank you to our gang of grillers--garden green beans, chips galore, potato salad, homemade desserts, games of corn hole, outdoor jenga, conversation, reunions and friendship! Thank you to everyone who contributed to our feast and fun and another warm welcome to our new families!

This coming Saturday we formally kick off the High Holy Days with our Selichot program and service. Please join us at 7 pm for a viewing of the Netflix documentary: The Quilters, which interviews inmates at a high security prison who have chosen to learn how to quilt. This short feature explores the themes of atonement, giving back, and whether redemption is ever truly possible. Following the film, we will have refreshments, and conclude the evening with our Selichot service. This brief service introduces the themes and melodies of the season and the first blow of the shofar! At this time in our year especially, we remember that “no day, no hour, and no moment is ever the same, nor should they be taken for granted.” Hope to see you on Saturday eve.
