Sanctuary & Social Renewal Project
Sanctuary & Social Renewal Project
The Sanctuary & Social Hall Renewal Project is the next step in implementing the BCRC Master Plan!* We have already taken several steps to implement the plan:
• New sanctuary paint job done to match our facility master plan.
• New wood chairs with comfortable and attractive upholstery.
Phase I
Movable Wall – A room divider similar to what you see in meeting halls. The movable wall has transformed our space already. It gives our sanctuary a ‘finished’ look, provides soundproofing and full separation of our most valuable community space, and enables us to further strengthen our community by having simultaneous events (i.e, a parent coffee in the social hall while Hebrew School activities occur in the sanctuary.)
Ark – A permanent carved wooden ark. Our current portable ark which has served us well will be able to transition to use when we hold services in other locations such as the library. Design proposals are currently being solicited.
Bimah – We are now underway with the project to replace our current rickety and aging bimah assembled from portable stage platforms with a modern, built in bimah. This bimah will transform the space with an air of permanence and spirituality. Thanks to all who donated in Sprint 1, the drive to raise $35,000 by the High Holy Days to fund the bimah.
Phase II - now underway!:
We have now initiated Sprint 2. Our goal is to raise $50,000 by June 30 to build a spiritual Jerusalem stone wall backdrop integrated with the bimah, with recessed lighting and built-in space for a permanent ark.We plan to have the sanctuary construction done during the summer so that we can be ready for the High Holy Days.
We cannot achieve this transformation without the support of our full congregation. Our capital campaign has two primary goals:
• Raising $400,000 over the course to fund both phases of the Sanctuary and Social Hall Renewal;
• Having 100% of our families contribute, no matter how large or small, so that this is truly a transformation driven by our house of friends coming together.
Donations at certain levels will be publicly and permanently recognized as sponsors but even the smallest amount will be much appreciated, and will receive recognition. Please read the details of our new recognition program for donors.
With the generous support of our Leaders Circle donors, we are well on our way to this goal. Get started NOW by clicking here and donating to Sanctuary & Social Renewal Project. Be sure to use this donation account to ensure your contribution is applied correctly.
* While there have been some changes to our design since the Master Plan was produced in 2018, such as the new placement of the kitchen and the orientation of the sanctuary, we are still dedicated to carrying out the spirit of this plan, which was intended to minimize business park feel and create a welcoming sense of identity for our house of friends.

GMU Commended by JCRC
Recent antisemitic threats uncovered by security personnel at George Mason University illustrate how difficult and scary life still is for many Jewish college students. Fortunately, GMU administrators took strong steps to address these developments. The Jewish Community Resource Council (JCRC) of Greater Washington put out this statement commending GMU for their commitment to and compassion for Jewish members of their community.
