Have you attended our remote Erev Shabbat services yet? They are a great way to create an online community in this time of 'social distancing', when many of us are missing out on community connections. They have also been a welcome respite from all of the news of the week for the ever-growing group that has joined us. If you haven't attended these services yet, we invite you to join us this week! BCRC members will be provided a link in the eBlast. We also welcome members of the community. Email our office at office@bcrcva.org for information.
At our service on April 3 we were joined by special guest Rizwan Jaka, of the ADAMS Center, who shared with us the meaning of Ramadan, starting later this month. Originally Rizwan was scheduled to join us in person, but instead he became a part of our online community. Ramadan celebrates the time when God revealed the Quran to Muhammad, and is a time of reflection and spritual reconnection to God. Fasting, which many of you are familiar with as a part of this month-long observance (Ramadan is named for the month of Ramadan during which it is held), is one of the five pillars of Islam, as is the pilgrimage to Mecca, which unfortunately may be canceled this year. However there will still be much celebration, Quranic recitation and other engagement, all done in home or remotely this year.
Please join us at future remote services for some enlightening programs and a spiritual recharge at the end of the week!
