Summary |
We were pleased to host (via Zoom) author and scholar Ruth Wisse, the Martin Peretz Professor Emeritus of Yiddish and Comparative Literature at Harvard University, for the inaugural 'Jewish Loudoun Reads' book club event. This event was also part of the Women of BCRC Book Club. Prof. Wisse discussed her important and timely book examining the relationship of the Jewish people with political power, both in Israel and in the many countries where they have lived. Despite some technical glitches, Prof. Wisse provided us with some valuable insights to help answer th question of why the Jewish people have continually been an attractive target for those in power. We had a good audience from both BCRC and Congregation Sh'are Shalom in person and online. If you haven't read this book BCRC will be obtaining several copies for our library which you may borrow (on the honor system).

Sanctuary & Social Renewal Project
BCRC has launched the Sanctuary & Social Renewal Project, a new fundraising project to take the next step in implementing the BCRC Master Plan. Work is now complete on the first phase, with the construction of our new movable wall between the sanctuary/social hall. We are now working on designing and building a beautiful new carved wooden ark and a new permanent bimah! Click here to read full details. GMU Commended by JCRC
Recent antisemitic threats uncovered by security personnel at George Mason University illustrate how difficult and scary life still is for many Jewish college students. Fortunately, GMU administrators took strong steps to address these developments. The Jewish Community Resource Council (JCRC) of Greater Washington put out this statement commending GMU for their commitment to and compassion for Jewish members of their community.
