Summary |
Thank you to everyone who attended our Annual Congregational Meeting last Wednesday evening, June 23rd! At this meeting the budget for the upcoming year was approved. Thanks to the continued generosity of our members, we will not need to raise the dues rates for this year. However, there is one important area you need to be aware of.
As you are all undoubtably aware, our nation has faced continuing threats of attacks on places of worship which has been exacerbated by the unfortunate situation of rising levels of antisemitism. To help protect our members, BCRC has been grateful to have received a Federal Non-Profit Security Grant which has funded security infrastructure upgrades for our building. We have also been able to use this money to hire contracted trained armed guards for Shabbat Services, major activities in the building, and Religious School sessions. However, this grant will soon be ending.
In order to continue this essential effort, the approved budget includes an annual $100 Security Fee, which will be added to each member account. It can be paid on a one time per year basis. These types of fees have been successfully used at other local temples. As long as everyone steps up and pays this small annual amount, we will be able to continue security guard coverage for the upcoming year and provide essential protection for our members.

UAA Questionnaire to Candidates
United Against Antisemitism (UAA), a grass roots organization based in the Washington D.C. area, created a questionnaire on how candidates seeking to run in our Congressional District, and for the US Senate seat for Virginia would respond to the rise of antisemitism we are witnessing.
This is a non-partisan effort, and the questionnaire was sent to all candidates (Democrats and Republicans) running in the primaries for the 10th Congressional District, the seat currently held by Jennifer Wexton who is not running for re-election. Please click here to read full information and to see the responses.
